If a person goes unconscious after ingesting cyanide, it is important to administer sodium bicarbonate to reduce lactic acid build up around the body. Cyanide antidotes should be given to the patient if they are nearby. When administering the antidote, call the nearest hospital or 911 to be sure that the proper dosage is given to the patient.

When a person falls victim to cyanide poisoning, it is important to remain as calm as possible but also to act fast. Cyanide treatment is available at hospitals, in paramedic units, or can be done in the field in dire cases. Intubate the patient, monitor their vital signs, and administer any medicines or antidotes available to curb the effects of this condition.
